About the Award:
The prestigious Literacy School of the Year Award, sponsored by Hays Education, highlights the best of literacy teaching and learning in the UK. Any UKLA member can nominate a school which they believe to be worthy of the award.
There are a number of criteria on which the Award is judged, which have been formulated to reflect the wealth of international research into and experience of good literacy practices. These can be found in the submissions guidance below.
Submissions:
- Submissions are now closed. The he shortlisted schools were visited by the judging panels in March, ahead of the final selection.
- The winning school(s) are then invited to the UKLA International Conference in July to share their work in a conference “expert practice” session.
- The winning school will receive an invitation to the UKLA 2026 International Conference at the University of Strathclyde for two of its teachers, with accommodation and attendance at the Gala Dinner included. They will also receive a year’s school membership to UKLA, copies of the UKLA Book Awards Longlist texts, and £200 of books from our sponsors, Hays Education.
- The award will be presented at the Conference Gala Dinner on the Saturday evening.
