Our Class Loves This Book Award 2026:
UKLA has decided to pause Our Class Loves This Book. This will allow us to focus on the re-launch of our Literacy School of the Year award, ensuring it receives the visibility and priority it deserves within our literacy community. We are excited to reinvigorate this award, celebrating schools that demonstrate outstanding commitment to literacy education.
Alongside this, we are exploring ways to strengthen the connection between Our Class Loves This Book Award and the resources we provide to members, ensuring that recognition also leads to meaningful support and inspiration for classroom practice.
We also see this as an opportunity to explore new sponsorship possibilities for Our Class Loves This Book, so that when it returns, it does so with renewed energy and enhanced impact.
Thank you for your continued support as we work to refine and strengthen our awards programme.
Our Class Loves This Book Award 2025:
The winner of the Our Class Loves This Book Award 2025 is Nicola Garrard, and her class at Minority Matters. Congratulations go to Nicola and her class for the fantastic and moving work they submitted.
About this Award:
The annual Our Class Loves This Book Award is the UKLA Award that celebrates creative teaching. Teachers are asked to explore, with their classes, a book from the previous year’s UKLA Book Awards shortlists and to encourage children’s creative response to the chosen book. The intention is to further students’ engagement with the text they are studying through using it as a launchpad for their own creative inventions.
Submissions:
- The submissions are opened in September of each year and close in the following April
- The winners are then announced at the start of the summer term
- The winning teacher is invited as a guest to the UKLA International Conference where they are asked to share their work in an ‘expert practice’ session, as well as receiving the Award at the Conference Gala Dinner on the Saturday evening.
- All entries will be acknowledged with a certificate.
