‘The UKLA International Conference is a unique opportunity for students to broaden their horizons, build confidence, and connect with peers, educators, and literacy specialists from across the UK and beyond. It offers access to professional spaces and international conversations they might not otherwise experience. By nominating a student, you will help open doors that can shape their future. I can personally say it was one of the best CPD events I’ve attended.
Places are limited, and demand is high, nominate early. Let’s nurture ambition and celebrate the next generation of literacy educators.‘

What are the Sponsored Places?
In collaboration with the NEU, UKLA are thrilled to offer sponsored places for teachers that are members of both organisations, as well as sponsored places for students nominated by their HE tutors, at the International Conference each year. The sponsored places for teachers are all-inclusive tickets to the International Conference, including the full 2-day programme of sessions, accommodation on Friday and Saturday night, and all meals. For students, the sponsorship offers them the opportunity to attend the full Friday and Saturday of Conference, including the Book Awards ceremony, and accommodation for the Friday night. This is a fantastic opportunity for teachers to come to the Conference that wouldn’t otherwise be able to, and for students to begin to get involved in national literacy networks, as well as learn from some of the top literacy educators in the UK.
Our sponsored teachers this year loved this experience.
Here’s what Krista Greenwood has to say:
‘I had the absolute pleasure of attending the UKLA International Conference in Liverpool this year. The NEU sponsorship covered everything except my travel (and Thursday night in a hotel as I opted to arrive a day early in order to take advantage of the full weekend’s offerings). Throughout the weekend, I was inspired by so many different speakers: some of them applied to my current practice as a classroom teacher and English lead, others were a bit broader. I was delighted to listen to speakers from all around the world and learn about their research studies. Other highlights of the weekend included keynote speaker Frank Cottrell-Boyce, attending the UKLA Book Award Ceremony and the Saturday night dinner in Liverpool City Hall – what a venue! Despite such a packed weekend of events, I even managed to squeeze in a bit of tourist time. I would highly recommend applying for a sponsored place. The conference was incredible and sponsorship outstanding value.‘
