East Midlands English Conference
UKLA, NETS, Affinity and Candleby Lane Teaching School Alliances are delighted to bring you our 3rd Annual English Conference.
This event took place Thursday March 19th, 2015
David Reedy who is a Director for the Cambridge Primary Review Trust and President of the UKLA will focus on Grammar in the new National Curriculum. He will give a rationale for the teaching of grammar and review research evidence and use practical examples which will cover both KS1 and KS2 which demonstrate how to embed high-quality contextualised grammar teaching and learning into English lessons. Sally Gardner will be giving a keynote speech she is an award winning author and illustrator of a number of books for children of a variety of ages. Her stories range from retellings of fairy stories for emerging readers, to the ‘Wings & Co’ series for lower KS2 age children. She has won both the Costa Children's Book Award and the Carnegie Medal for Maggot Moon. Ironically, when she went into writing, where she assumed her dyslexia would be a true disability, it turned out to be the start of something amazing. She was more than blessed to meet an editor, Judith Elliot, who was to play an important part in my journey to being a writer.
All workshops will be informed by the needs of subject leaders across our region through a range of on-going consultation activities and further details will be published later in the year. The event will also feature a market place providing the opportunity to purchase books, resources and to make links with essential partners.
