UKLA BERA OU Research Symposium 2018
Reading for Pleasure: What next? The symposium seeks to enable information sharing in order to advance understanding of the concept of reading for pleasure, and to provoke debate about policy, practice and new areas for inquiry.
Thursday March 22, 2018
This is the sixth annual UKLA, BERA and OU research symposium. It draws together significant scholars whose recent research explores the nature of reading for pleasure in different contexts. Chaired by Professor Teresa Cremin (Open University), our speakers include: Professors Gemma Moss (UCL), Cathy Burnett and Guy Merchant (Sheffield Hallam University), and Dr Rachael Levy (University of Sheffield).
The day also involves a panel which will explore recent research undertaken/funded by key UK literacy organizations, including: Beanstalk, the Centre for Literacy in Primary Education, Just Imagine and Empathy Lab. Additionally a series of short fuse presentations will enable delegates to keep up to date with others’ research and development work, including investigations into struggling boy readers and pedagogies of poverty, adolescent readers in Turkey, children’s reading/literate identities, communities of readers, The Reading Outcomes Framework, Print Matters, Segmentation Research, and Reading Teachers = Reading Pupils.
The symposium seeks to enable information sharing in order to advance understanding of the concept of reading for pleasure, and to provoke debate about policy, practice and new areas for inquiry.
