This event examines and showcases the latest research and ideas on children's literacy and will be of interest to all those supporting children's reading and writing in the primary and secondary age ranges. Provisional topics and speakers include:

  • Encouraging reading for pleasure: setting up 'Chatterbooks' reading groups - Lynne Taylor, The Reading Agency
  • Text messaging and children's spelling and grammar- Prof. Clare Wood, Coventry University
  • Children challenged by writing: Reflections on why some children struggle to learn to write - Dr Vince Connelly, Oxford Brookes University
  • Thinking about phonics - Dr Janet Vousden, Coventry University
  • Speech rhythm and reading difficulties - Dr Andrew Holliman, Coventry University

This event is ideal CPD for teachers, classroom assistants and academics working or interested in the area of children's literacy, certificates of attendance can be arranged at request. Parents are also very welcome to attend. All delegates will receive lunch, refreshments and a goodie bag. The event is free to attend.
