Teaching Reading in Primary Classrooms Conference, Joint Conference between UKLA and the NEU

We hope vou can ioin us for this one-day conference hosted b the National Education Union (NEU) and UK Literacy Association (UKLA) on May 20th 2023.

The teaching of reading in primary schools in England has long been an area of controversy.

Government policy and statutory requirements have focussed on narrow areas of reading at the detriment of a broader and more evidence informed approach.

This conference will challenge current policy through critique as well as sharing research on reading development and teaching.

On the day participants will take part in hands-on practical sessions, learning great ideas for your classroom from teachers, academics, and authors from the field.

Come to be inspired, to debate ways forward for policy and practice and to rethink routes that effectively support children as readers.

We encourage primary teachers and assistants, middle and senior leaders and teacher educators to attend.

The conference takes place from 8.45am-3.15pm on the 20th May at Hamilton House, WC1H 9BD.

Tickets are £15 and can be purchased here. The event is open to NEU and UKLA members only.
