UKLA is delighted to announce that the winner of the 2017 Academic Book Award is:
Wayne Tennent, David Reedy, Angela Hobsbaum, Nikki Gamble Guiding Readers- Layers of Meaning, UCL Institute of Education Press.
Panel chair, Guy Merchant writes: “The committee was impressed by the level of scholarship and the clarity of the summary of research evidence on reading comprehension. The chapter on text selection was seen as an important and distinctive element. We felt that the book redefined ‘guiding’ in the context of reading and reading comprehension, and that this was illustrated in a thorough and detailed manner. No doubt about it, this book is a prize-winner!”
The winners will be honoured at a wine reception at the UKLA International Conference (30 June to 2 July 2017) in Glasgow.
Panel: Guy Merchant (chair), Carrie Ansell, Beverley Barnes, Jane Bednall, Doreen Challen, Lynda Graham, Chris Lockwood, Penny Manford, Rebecca Phillips, Dianne Smith.
