The United Kingdom Literacy Association (UKLA) is calling for an Expression of Interest from any company wishing to publish its two flagship academic journals – the Journal of Research in Reading (4 issues per annum) and Literacy (3 issues per annum) – from 1st January 2021.

Literacy is an international journal for those interested in the study and development of literacy. Its readership comprises practitioners, teacher educators, researchers and both undergraduate and graduate students. Literacy publishes a wide range of research articles with a focus on stimulating debate through scrutinising research evidence, reflecting on analysed accounts of innovative practice and examining recent policy developments.

The Journal of Research in Reading provides an international forum for researchers into literacy. It is a refereed journal principally devoted to reports of original empirical research in reading and closely related fields (e.g. spoken language, writing), and to informed reviews of relevant literature. The Journal of Research in Reading welcomes papers researching issues on the learning, teaching and use of literacy in adults or children in a variety of contexts, with a particular focus on psychological and educational approaches. It encourages papers within any research paradigm and from researchers in any relevant field.

The current contract for publishing these two journals expires on 31st December 2020. UKLA would like Expressions of Interest to include information on the publisher’s proposed contractual terms, details of royalties, how they are intending to help extend the reach of the journals and how the interesting development of Open Access is to be dealt with.

If your company would like to learn more and/or is interested in submitting an Expression of Interest, please contact the General Manager, UKLA, c/o VAL, 9 Newarke Street, Leicester LE1 5SN by Tuesday 30th April 2019.

The deadline for written submission of Expressions of Interest is Tuesday 28th May 2019.

Written submissions will be followed by a meeting between UKLA trustees and each publisher’s representatives.
