BBC Comedy Classroom Competition
The BBC has launched a fantastic new writing competition, co-sponsored by the National Literacy Trust, to use children’s literacy skills to generate laughter. We invite teachers to get involved, encourage students to enter and ‘have a write laugh’!
The competition is fully integrated into the existing curriculums throughout the UK. This is a great opportunity to have fun, do something different in the classroom and help students achieve generic literacy learning outcomes for reading, writing and speaking.
The BBC invites entries for three competitions, stand-up, sketch and photo caption, so all the class can try their hand at a variety of skills. There are plenty of resources for teachers to get started, including lesson plans, videos and writing tips.
Aimed at students in Years 9 and 10 in England and Wales, Years 10 and 11 in Northern Ireland, and S3 and S4 in Scotland, the winning students will see their entries filmed and broadcast by the BBC.
Comedy is a great way to get students engaged with literacy, and UKLA proudly supports the competition.
