UKLA’s response to Ofsted’s consultation on new framework and handbook for ITE inspections
Ofsted have invited responses to proposed changes to the inspection framework for ITE in England.
You can download UKLA's response below. While we broadly welcome some of the proposed changes, we have serious concerns about the following statement, which we elaborate on in our response:
"For primary phase, training will ensure that trainees learn to teach early reading using systematic synthetic phonics as outlined in the ITT core content framework and that trainees are not taught to use competing approaches to early reading that are not supported by the most up-to-date evidence." (Ofsted, 2020, p.39).
We know that many members will wish to submit their own responses. We hope that you find our response helpful to you in doing so.
You can find details of the new framework and submit your response here.
