NOTICE OF UKLA EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE ELECTIONS 2019
Completed nomination forms must be returned to UKLA, Room 9, c/o VAL, 9 Newarke Street, Leicester, LE1 5SN by noon on Friday 21st June, 2019.
UKLA is looking for Executive Committee members with expertise in, and/or enthusiasm for, many different areas which will support the advancement of education in literacy. If you are interested, please consider being nominated for election or nominating a colleague. UKLA is committed to championing diversity, inclusion and representation within all its work. We particularly welcome nominations from candidates who have historically been under-represented within UKLA who identify themselves as BAME, LGBTQ+, or as having a disability.
The Executive Committee takes on a variety of work for the Association. Members of Executive Committee are elected annually. It comprises UKLA Officers and conveners of UKLA’s sub-committees. Remaining places on the Executive Committee are filled by co-opted members. A list of the current Executive Committee and their roles can be found on the UKLA website at https://ukla.org/about/ukla-people/executive-committee/.
All members of the UKLA Executive Committee are also UKLA trustees. The duties and eligibility of trustees are set out in the Charity Commission Website in guidance entitled The essential trustee: what you need to know, what you need to do.
Executive Committee/trustees serve in a number of ways. The President leads the Association and chairs key meetings; the Hon. Secretary has oversight of UKLA administration and support, and the Hon. Treasurer of UKLA has oversight of financial matters. Executive Committee/trustees also manage the work of the UKLA sub-committees. The sub-committees are: Publications (paper-based and web-based); International; Conferences; Awards; Research; Publicity and Communications.
The final list of Executive Committee nominations for election will be published on the UKLA website after the closing date of noon on Friday 21st June, 2019. Should the number of nominations exceed the vacancies, elections will be by ballot at the AGM. To be nominated, you must be a UKLA member in good standing and must be nominated and seconded by UKLA members also in good standing.
