The UKLA Digital Book Award is the only national award for digital books judged by teachers. The Award recognises innovation, creativity and excellence in digital book publishing. For 2016, UKLA invite submissions for teachers and children to share in their classrooms with children aged 6-8. We are looking for apps and e-books that support reading for pleasure and make a child’s experience of the story richer and more meaningful, with strong narratives driven by the affordances of the digital medium.

On 9 March, 2015 the UK Literacy Association in association with Booktrust announced the launch of their Digital Book Award to recognise innovation, creativity and excellence in digital book publishing.

The Award is sponsored by The Open University and aims to reward apps, ebooks and other digital interactive products that use sounds, visuals, and interaction in innovative ways to make a child’s experience of the story richer and more meaningful.

The previous winner was independent children’s publisher Nosy Crow with their app Axel Scheffler’s Flip Flap Safari. Dino Tales App by Kuato Studios was Highly Commended.

This year’s call for submissions runs from 1 January – 28 February 2016. The deadline for entries is 28 February 2016, 5pm UK time. For more information on how to enter and eligibility criteria visit the UKLA Digital Book Award webpage.
