Name: Anne Bradley
Location: Wales, UK
Profession: I am a retired lecturer in Initial Teacher Training (primary) specialising in children’s reading. I worked at Plymouth Marjon University but I have recently retired to Wales and am hoping to continue with my research into reading for pleasure once I am able to make contact with schools.
3 words to describe yourself: Cheerful, Readaholic, Organised.
3 things you love to do in your spare time: Granny, reading, sewing.
Length of UKLA membership: 6 years
Reason for joining UKLA: I joined to be able to meet and learn from interesting people who share my passion for inspiring children, especially with reading. For three years I worked with students shadowing the UKLA awards with Lynda Graham. I was very lucky that 4 of my students have, over the years, been offered a place at conference sponsored by the NUT.
Share a memorable experience with UKLA: I love the international conference. I flew up to Glasgow, from Exeter, for the conference a few years ago and my luggage was lost. I was presenting on the Friday morning and was really worried that I would have to wear what I travelled in! Fortunately my case arrived but it was a moment of pure panic! That was a fantastic conference. The museum was the most splendid setting for the gala dinner. I really enjoy the conferences as everyone is so friendly and interesting!
