UKLA HONOURS ACADEMIC TEXTS

Unique, distinctive, stunning, inspirational – these are just some of the overwhelmingly enthusiastic comments made by the panel about the winner of the 2013 UKLA Academic Book Award.

The winner, announced a the gala dinner of the 49th UKLA International Conference at Liverpool Hope University July 5th-7th is:

Children’s Picturebooks: The art of visual storytelling by Martin Salisbury and Morag Styles, Laurence King Publishing. 
The winners received their award at the gala on July 6th.

This award is presented every two years for recently published academic text about the teaching of English for teachers, students, consultants or  HE tutors.  Lynda Graham, panel chair, said:  The quality of books submitted by publishers this year is exceptionally high. The panel looks for books that make a lasting, significant contribution to the teaching of English.

The panel also highly commends the ‘beautifully written, inspirational’  Writing voices: Creating Communities of Writers by Teresa Cremin and Debra Myhill, Published by Routledge. Read more about this Award

UKLA Wiley-Blackwell Research in Literacy Education Award

Winners announced of the UKLA /Wiley-Blackwell Research in Literacy Education Award 2013. This is an important and prestigious prize that is awarded each year to one paper in each of UKLA’s journals, Journal of Research in Reading and Literacy. Editors of both journals, in liaison with members of their boards, submit papers to a panel, who read all of the papers and decide on the winners. A list of the shortlisted papers can be found on the UKLA website www.ukla.org .This year, the panel found the quality of all submissions to be high and congratulate all authors of the shortlisted papers on their achievement. It was, therefore, a challenging process for the panel but, ultimately, the following papers were deemed to be outstanding and worthy of this year’s award: Journal of Research in Reading Bianco, M., Pellenq, C., Lambert, E., Bressoux, P., Lima, L., & Doyen, A.-L.
