The United Kingdom Literacy Association is proud to be part of the Poetry by Heart consortium. The work that Poetry by Heart undertakes in fostering a love of poetry is admirable and vitally important in an ever-changing world. Through encouraging personal interpretation and performance, it blends cognitive, emotional, and cultural benefits that last a lifetime. We know the impact that poetry can have, enabling our children to express universal emotions and experiences, allowing them to connect to feelings that may otherwise be hard to articulate, being part of a greater community through their competition. We look forward to forging ahead together with Poetry by Heart and their partners, to ensure poetry remains at the heart of children’s education, developing key oracy skills, personal and cultural awareness and enriching their literacy offer for social justice, across all educational sectors.
