I joined Canterbury Christ Church University in 2015 as a senior lecturer in primary English. Before this I worked for 14 years in primary schools across Kent, specialising in the teaching of English. I worked as a lead English teacher and consultant for the local educational authority. I have a Masters in Children’s Literature, and my PhD focused on what teachers understand about the teaching of reading. I have always had an interest in children’s literature and encouraging children to think critically with their reading.
I have been a member of the UKLA since I was a student and have always felt inspired, challenged and surrounded by like-minded enthusiasts for children’s literature and creativity.
