I have worked in Cornwall for all of my teaching career. Currently I am Head Teacher of Carclaze Primary School, a two-form entry school in St Austell. I am passionate about the importance of developing a lifelong love of reading and the importance of reading for pleasure in improving outcomes for pupils. I believe that getting children hooked on reading needs to be planned and purposeful and this starts with putting reading at the heart of the school, investing in high-quality books and empowering teachers and support staff through high quality CPD.

For the past two years’ I have led an OU/UKLA Teacher’s Reading Group. It was being part of one of these groups that introduced me to the benefits of being a member of the UKLA. I tweet as @PollSimon
