As an organisation with the sole purpose of furthering literacy education, part of the work that we do is providing policy makers with clear suggestions and recommendations of how national policies – and the curriculum – can help enable this to happen.

With the National Year of Reading 2026 campaign making clear that reading rates in this country are on the decline, there has never been a more important time for policy makers to come together with organisations like ours, to hear from experts in the field as to how we might work better to combat this.

Below, you can find a series of pieces of work done by UKLA, and in collaboration with our colleagues at other associations, that make clear our positions on policy and make recommendations for how the national curriculum might better support students’ literacy levels moving forward.
