Teachers as Readers: Building Communities of Readers is an ongoing UKLA project designed to increase children’s independent reading for pleasure by improving teachers’ knowledge and experience of literature, developing teachers’ relationships with families and librarians, and increasing children’s motivation and enthusiasm for reading. The booklet outlines the structure and underlying principles of the project, giving guidance about how school literacy co-ordinators and Local Authorities can carry out similar projects for themselves with surveys, questionnaires and advice for running sessions with teachers.
