**Fully revised and updated for the 2014 National Curriculum**
Over recent years there has been a great deal of interest in ‘talk for writing’: the ways in which teacher and pupil talk might impact on the quality of pupil writing. This book takes ‘talk for writing’ further as it explores the ways in which talk strategies can be used for the teaching of spelling. The basic premise is that better spelling is likely to be achieved if pupils are engaged with and excited by spelling lessons. In the Early Years and Key Stage 1 there has been a great deal of work to ensure phonics lessons are lively and interactive but this does not always continue into spelling lessons in Key Stage 2. The teaching sequences described and explained in the book have been developed and tested in many classrooms and most can be used across the primary age range.
