The government is launching a public consultation on the draft Programmes of Study for English, giving teachers, subject leaders, academics, and other stakeholders a genuine opportunity to help shape the future National Curriculum. These consultations rarely get a strong response rate.

So, as part of a partnership with NATE and the English Association, UKLA want to help you make the most of this opportunity. A new National Curriculum provides a timely moment to reimagine English so that every learner can thrive as a literate individual—through teaching that is critical, creative, and affective, and through encounters with language and literature that are both relevant and deeply enjoyable.

To support you in responding to the consultation, in collaboration with our colleagues at NATE, we are running a series of free online workshops that will help you develop an informed, thoughtful response alongside colleagues from across the discipline.

By joining us, you’ll have the opportunity to:

• Hear the latest thinking from experts in Primary education and Literacy/English on the draft Programmes of Study and what they could mean for your teaching.
• Workshop your own response to the public consultation, so your professional voice can be heard.
• Raise your questions about the draft National Curriculum and discuss them with fellow teachers and subject experts.

Together, we can help ensure the new National Curriculum sets out an ambitious vision for English that is rewarding, relevant, and joyful to teach.

We’ll run three workshops (one in a twilight slot, one in a daytime slot, and one on a Saturday morning) to ensure as many colleagues as possible can attend.
