UKLA Everyday Literacies SIG Launch – May 26th 5pm-6.30pm (BST)
Contemplating Everyday Literacies
To launch the UKLA Everyday Literacies SIG, we invite interested UKLA members to attend our inaugural talk addressing the question: What are everyday literacies? The 90 minute twilight event will have short keynote presentations by esteemed researchers, followed by a group PADLET activity, and it will conclude with a discussion about ideas for future SIG webinars and symposia. The keynote presenters are: Professor Cathy Burnett (Sheffield Hallam University), Professor Teresa Cremin (Open University), Professor Mary Hamilton (Lancaster University), and Dr. Mia Perry (University of Glasgow). It will be an opportunity to talk about the vision of our SIG and what would energise and interest its members.
The driving force of the SIG is to explore the complexities that have transpired within literacy studies over the past decade. The SIG is inclusive, inviting varied perspectives, lenses, and framings of literacies. This inclusive ‘everyday’ framing seeks to act as a ‘catch all’ to provide opportunities for new departures and responsive practice. We hope that you will attend our first event on May 26th, 2021 from 5 – 6:30 PM to start our conversations.
