Registered tutors are also invited to nominate students for NEU sponsored conference places (up to two students from their UKLA Book Award students’ shadowing group) The committee will consider the strengths of each nomination in three key areas:
- Engagement in the shadowing process beyond book group discussion (both on and off-line)
- Innovative or effective practice using the books with children/in the classroom
- Involvement in wider school/community initiatives involving reading/the books from shadowing
The winning students and their tutors are invited to the UKLA International Conference as guests of the association. They will be honoured at the Book Awards ceremony and receive places at the Saturday conference as guests of the association.

UKLA teacher members are invited to shadow the UKLA Book Awards shortlists in the Summer term. They can choose one category: 3-6+, 7-10+, 11-14+ or Information books 3-14+.
Teachers are asked to borrow the 6 shortlisted books from their local library, buy them from local independent bookshops or order packs at generous discount from Marilyn Brocklehurst, NCBC, our conference Bookseller
All teachers taking part are eligible to vote, in 2022 on June 13th.The voting link will be sent to all registered teachers .
The winning authors, illustrators & translators of this vote are honoured at the prestigious UKLA Book Awards Ceremony – part of the UKLA International Conference. Participating teachers are invited to this ceremony, this year on July 1st 2022 at the Burlington Hotel, Birmingham. The invitation will be sent to all those registered to shadow the shortlists.
