World Book Day Reading Suggestions

To mark World Book Day this year, at UKLA we thought it would be the perfect opportunity to share a reading list that has been developed since our National Conference last weekend. This reading list is one that aims to represent the ‘new’ minorities. It aims to support an approach to children’s literature that is inclusive and representative, providing all children with the opportunity to see themselves and their experiences reflected in the books they read. This approach not only supports literacy development but also fosters a sense of belonging and validation for children from diverse backgrounds.

This is something we feel is important on this day, and every other. As children around the world celebrate their love of reading, it is vitally important to make sure that all children are able to read books that they see themselves represented in.

The reading list has books for children of all ages and backgrounds in it, and can be downloaded below. Alternatively, it can be viewed in padlet, where we encourage you to contribute and collaborate on this great resource: https://uofsussex.padlet.org/PrimaryTeam/books-to-meet-the-needs-of-our-many-different-minorities-oprqlj19irreufc2
